Personal Life

Why 'Cobs in my hair' ?

Every morning before school, my mum used to say to me, “Oh Anna, you’ve got cobs in your hair! You look like the wreck of the Hesperus!”

Clearly, the idea of perfection was always just that – an idea – not the reality!

Perhaps, as a consequence of constantly having matted hair, I’ve always found myself being drawn to images of real-life clutter and scenes that depict the warmth of a busy home like the children's book illustrations by Shirley Hughes I used to sit and look at for hours as a child.

As a mother of three myself, I’ve been forced to surrender to the inevitable disorder of my own life and am drawn to recreate scenes, as if from a play about family life, in meticulous detail.

I style and dress my photos using nearby objects and items to create cosy narratives around my subjects.

My personal work is all about creating a colourful patchwork of nostalgic ideas based around children and the home.
